Fantasy-Reality Continuum: Science, Religion, Politics, Culture
“Fantasy-Reality Continuum: Science, Religion, Politics, Culture” was a conference organized by the team at the University of Warsaw on 8-10 December 2023, in partnership with the Norbert Elias Foundation.
It was concerned with one of the most important and urgent practical questions of our time: is it becoming more difficult to uphold calm and realistic understanding of the society in which we live? Or are we being submerged under a tidal wave of emotionally-driven fantasy? Do rising dangers and related fears foster more uncurbed fantasy?
The conference gathered a diverse crowd of over 60 speakers, including three keynote speakers: Manuela Boatca, Stefanie Ernst and Debbie Kasper.

International workshops for doctoral students and post-docs ” was a companion event to the “Fantasy-Reality” conference, organized on 6-8 December 2023 by Emilia Sieczka and Paweł Bagiński.
The doctoral students and post-docs attending the workshop had the chance to comment on each other’s work and had it commented on by Marta Bucholc (Faculty of Sociology UW), Andrzeja Leder (Polish Academy of Sciences), Adam Lipszyc (Polish Academy of Sciences), Robert van Krieken (University of Sydney) and Krzysztof Świrek (Faculty of Sociology UW).
